A hefty increase in new water tap fees is on the Emporia City Commission's agenda for possible approval Wednesday afternoon.

Commissioners have been discussing a proposal to increase water tap fees from $126 to $1,100 as a way to offset installation costs. Developers or homeowners would bear that cost in full if the increase is approved.

In other business, commissioners could consider bids for both the 2021 street rehab project and South Exchange street project. Commissioners will also look at Emporia State Federal Credit Union's appeal of the State Historic Preservation Office's decision not to allow the demolition of a building at 727 Merchant.

The meeting starts at 1:30 pm at the Municipal Court Room.

Before that meeting, city commissioners will have a joint luncheon with Lyon County commissioners and members of the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas and Emporia Enterprises. The meeting starts at 11:30 at White Auditorium's Little Theater. The agenda has not been released.
