After being at the frontline of one of the most historic events in recent history, Lyon County Public Health will again make history as the inaugural recipient of the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce's newest award.

Public Health will receive the first annual Chamber Community Impact Award for its work in serving the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In a recent news release, the Chamber recognized the hundreds of hours Public Health and its members have put into managing the pandemic.

Public Health's work has included the establishment of an emergency operations center, the development and installation of numerous mitigation strategies, partnerships with local community partners and businesses and providing increased education to the community on a regular basis.

In the same news release former Lyon County Public Health Officer Renee Hively recognized all Public Health employees for their service over the past year and credited partnerships with the Kansas National Guard and local law enforcement for their assistance in several endeavors including helping run the mass testing line at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building last year.

The formal announcement of the Community Impact Award will be made during the Emporia Area Chamber’s virtual 124th annual meeting on Friday. All 2020 Chamber award recipients will be formally recognized during the chamber's annual banquet scheduled for Jun. 25.
