Former Wabaunsee County coroner Shawn Parcells has been told to stop performing autopsies.

On Tuesday, Shawnee County District Court issued a permanent injunction designed to stop Parcells from "engaging in the practice of the Healing Arts in Kansas or representing to the public that he is qualified to practice medicine," meaning he can't represent himself as a doctor or physician assistant. He also can't operate any medical or surgery offices.

The step taken by Shawnee County District Court follows a civil action by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts last year after reports Parcells misrepresented himself to grieving families seeking autopsies for their loved ones.

Parcells has been banned for over a year from autopsies, forensic pathology and tissue recovery after 14 alleged violations of the Consumer Protection Act and Kansas False Claims Act. Parcells also faces felony theft and misdemeanor desecration counts in Wabaunsee County after alleged incidents in 2014 and 2015.
