Governor Laura Kelly updated her goal of universal COVID-19 testing across Kansas during her weekly news conference Tuesday.

For universal testing, the governor says the state is "making notable progress" by moving into the so-called RFP phase.

Once everything is in place, the state will coordinate public and private testing efforts. It will also increase routine testing for at-risk congregate settings like schools, nursing facilities and jails. The governor did not say how soon that could happen.

Kansas is also now part of the Rockefeller Foundation COVID-19 Testing Solutions Group along with four other states, 21 municipalities and two Native American tribes. Kelly says this will let Kansas develop a strong web of testing information that stretches across the country. It will also help the state remain updated on best testing practices.
