Equipment inside Hill's Pet Nutrition -- and an untold amount of dog food -- was damaged or destroyed by a fire Friday night.

Firefighters were dispatched to the plant around 9:15 pm. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley tells KVOE News there wasn't any visible smoke or fire when they arrived, but there was when they got to a food dryer.

Firefighters got the blaze under control quickly. No injuries were reported.

Early indications are Hill's crews were preparing the dryer for cleanout and there was apparently dog food inside the dryer when the fire started. The amount of destroyed food and a damage estimate to the dryer have not been announced. The cause and origination point are still under investigation and may be released by the middle of the week.
