More and more places are shutting down because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Before the city of Emporia closed all offices and White Auditorium in addition to Municipal Court, the David Traylor Zoo completely closed after shutting down the Zoo Education Center and a public area near the primate exhibit. Director Lisa Keith:

The United Way of the Flint Hills has closed its office but staff are available by phone, email or social media.

LCAT has further restricted service. Effective Monday, trips will take place in Emporia and Lyon County, but not outside the county lines. Operating hours will be reduced from 6 am to 4 pm on weekdays and 7:30 am to 3 pm Saturdays with the office and Lyon County Annex now closed to the public. Finance Officer Shane Brunner says ridership has taken a big hit with businesses closing and activities canceled.

Government buildings are closing as well. The Kansas Department of Children and Families and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism closed all their offices. The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is closing all its buildings. After closing its visitor centers at its lakes, the US Army Corps of Engineers closed campgrounds at Council Grove, John Redmond and Marion reservoirs.

Churches have been adjusting their schedules throughout the pandemic. Messiah Lutheran Church will not have Sunday services at the church building through April 5, but it will take those to the Lyon County Fairgrounds instead at 9 am every Sunday. All those will be broadcast on 14 KVOE and 96.9 FM.

More events were also canceled, including the Friends of the Plains Dinner and a hunter education class at the Flint Hills Wildlife Refuge.
