Updates to the DeBauge Family Sports Complex headlined the Emporia Recreation Commission's February Board Meeting on Monday evening.

Drainage issues have been commonplace for the DeBauge Complex's parking lot, especially during storm season. Discussions in previous Board meetings floated the idea of installing a flume to help direct the standing water and subsequent sediment runoff into a less-elevated ditch area.

ERC Executive Director Tom McEvoy has been researching potential bids, as the Board was interested in moving forward with this concept. McEvoy presented one such bid to the Board on Monday with an estimated construction cost of $13,000.

The Board unanimously approved the business item, giving McEvoy the green light to begin the process. McEvoy hopes to begin construction by March and have it completed soon after, weather permitting. Funds for this project will come from the Rec's Capital Improvement Budget.

In other business, the Board also unanimously approved a KPERS Optional Group Life Insurance boost for qualified KPERS staff at no extra cost to the Rec. The next meeting for the Rec Commission will be on Mar. 16 starting at 5:30 pm at the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
