As the investigation continues into a fatal fire at a mobile home west of Emporia, the blaze rekindled and caused additional damage to the home.

The fire rekindled shortly before noon Thursday with breezy conditions in the area, sending firefighters from Emporia and Lyon County District Four to Green Acres Mobile Home Park.

Fire crews and deputies were first paged out to 1753 Road E Lot 237 shortly before 1 am Thursday. Firefighters saw heavy smoke as they arrived, according to Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley. He tells KVOE News crews entered the home and found two people dead inside.

Names are not being released at this time as authorities notify next of kin.

There is currently no information on the cause or the origination point. The mobile home was heavily damaged before the first fire was put out.

Emporia Fire, Lyon County deputies and the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating.

The fire that developed in a mobile home west of Emporia very early Thursday has killed two people.


Fire crews and deputies were paged out to the Green Acres Mobile Home Park, 1753 Road E Lot 237, shortly before 1 am. Neighbors told firefighters they thought people were inside, and Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says that was confirmed when crews entered the home and found two people dead inside.

Names are not being released at this time as authorities notify next of kin.

At this time, there is no information on the cause or the origination point. There was heavy smoke coming from the home when crews arrived, and the mobile home was heavily damaged before the fire was put out.

Several agencies responded, including Emporia Fire, Olpe Fire, Lyon County deputies, Evergy and Kansas Gas. Emporia Fire, Lyon County deputies and the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating.
