Classes are officially underway for college students Monday, and Flint Hills Technical College could be seeing a record number of students this year.

During the most recent instalment of Tech Talk last Tuesday, Vice President of Student Services Lisa Kirmer says enrollment numbers are "looking great." She says they are fully expecting to break records this year.

Traditional enrollment numbers are not the only thing looking up as Kirmer says over the past few years the college has seen the enrollment for dual credit classes double and even triple. Dual credit classes offer students the opportunity to gain college credit while still attending high school.

Kirmer says dual credit enrollment is extremely beneficial for students as they near graduation. She adds, now is also the best time in the state of Kansas for students to take advantage of this opportunity.

Kirmer and her staff have been working with students throughout the past several months, sometimes even upwards of a year, to ensure students are all set to continue or begin their technical college journey. Kirmer says their work does not end once students begin classes as student services staff work with students in several capacities during their time at FHTC.

This includes acting as both an academic advisor and a personal counsellor according to Kirmer.
