Group member Al Slappy says they held a fish fry for the community Saturday at the Emporia Rec Center with the event bringing in just north of $400.
The group is currently in the process of making improvements to Eastside Memorial Park as they work toward construction of a new basketball court and shelter, water fountain and walking trails to complete phase two. Slappy says there are also plans eventually for an oblique, or monument, showcasing the hard work of those who helped build the city.
The Eastside Community Group is planning to prepare gift baskets for senior citizens this holiday season, says Slappy.
The group is also one of the Match Day beneficiaries whom you can support at the upcoming event Nov. 12 at Flinthills Mall.
