Election Day is two weeks away but some Lyon County voters have already taken advantage of the opportunity to advance vote.

After 330 registered Lyon County voters turned out for a special Saturday satellite polling place at the Flinthills Mall, an additional 189 took advantage of the first day of advance voting inside the Lyon County Courthouse on Monday. County Clerk Tammy Vopat says there are many perks to voting early.

Voter registration wrapped up last week and Vopat says there's no doubt there's been an increase as the number of registered Lyon County voters is now up to 20,250, which according to Vopat may be the first time the county has ever had more than 20,000 registered voters. In addition, she says they've seen a spike in requests for mail ballots.

Advance voting takes place during business hours Monday through Friday at the Lyon County Courthouse and will commence at noon Nov. 5. The deadline to request a mail ballot is Oct. 30 and those must be postmarked by Election Day (Nov. 6) to be counted.
