The term "goat" now often references to the "greatest of all time" in addition to the animal. The best of the best Saturday were definitely good enough to earn top honors at the Lyon County Fair, and we'll see about their all-time status later.

Brooke Finnerty of Busy Beavers had the champion market meat goat and also won the Lyon County Born and Bred event. She has been involved in 4-H for nine years, and she takes pride in raising goats -- whether it's the market breeding, dairy or Spanish breeding varieties.

Finnerty says goats can be fun to show -- but you have to catch them when they are in a good mood.

Kate Rees of Chamness was the reserve champion for market meat goat and market breeding doe. She also finished second in Lyon County Born and Bred. She was proud of two very different things after the contest ended.

Rees spent much of her prep time making sure the goats were properly clipped and she also practiced bracing them. As temperamental as goats can be, Rees says she has to be ready for just about anything.

Among the activities Sunday: Entries inside the Anderson Building will be released from 1-2:30 pm. State Fair entries are due in the Fair Office by 2:30 pm sharp. The kids pedal tractor pull is at 5 pm in the Show Arena.
