The Emporia High girls tennis team opens their season Thursday. They will be hosting a 7 team tournament. The girls golf team goes to Newton.
The Emporia High volleyball team split the two matches they played Wednesday night. The Lady Spartans defeated Topeka High in 2 sets winning 25-7 and 25-12. They were defeated by Topeka Hayden in 2 sets, losing 25-9 and 25-19. They are now 2-1 for the season.
The Emporia High boys soccer team is now ranked. The Spartans are ranked 3rd in class 5A in the Kansas Soccer Coach's poll. St. Thomas Aquinas is ranked number 1 and Blue Valley Southwest is ranked number 2. Salina South and Andover round out the top 5 in 5A.
A Kansas City Royals rally came up short Tuesday night in a 6-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers. The Royals had the tying run on base in both the 8th and 9th innings but could not get the key hit.
