Emporia American Legion to hold tryouts

The Emporia American Legion baseball teams will be holding tryouts this Saturday and Sunday. The Senior Legion is open to those 19 years old and younger. The Junior Legion is open to those 17 years old and younger. Tryouts will be held at Sodens Grove beginning at 4pm both days. The Junior Legion opens their season June 2nd against Andover. The Senior legion will be playing in the Sam Ellis tournament beginning June 3rd.

Twins out score Royals 7-5

The Minnesota Twins out scored the Kansas City Royals 7-5 Wednesday afternoon. The Twins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game. The Royals would answer with a 5 run 4th inning. Eric Hosmer drove in 2 of the runs with a double. Salvador Perez doubled in Hosmer and Perez scored on an Omar Infante triple. Infante scored on a wild pitch. The Twins retook the lead with a 2 run home run in the 5th. The Royals open a 4 game series with the Chicago White Sox Thursday night.

Madison High school hires new coaches

Madison High School has hired 2 new coaches for the 2016-17 school year. Shelly Hoyt has been hired as the next girls basketball coach. She previously was at Hoxie where she won 107 consecutive games and 4 state titles.
 
Alex McMillian has been hired as the head football coach. He previously was an assistant at Victoria.

Royals hold on for 7-4 win over Minnesota

Lorenzo Cain tied a career high with four hits, while Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 7-4 win over the Minnesota Twins Tuesday night.

Emporia States Wheat and Stubblefield named Rawlings all region

More post season honors for two Emporia State baseball players. The American Baseball Coaches Association have named Senior outfielder Dalton Wheat and Junior pitcher Tyler Stubblefield to the Rawlings all Central region first team. Wheat  hit .391 with seven home runs, 62 RBI, 62 runs scored and 19 stolen bases this season. Stubblefield was 10-1 with a 2.65 ERA.
 
 

Emporia Highs Brooke Call named all league

Emporia High junior Brooke Call has been named to the All Centennial League softball team as a Honorable mention.

Kansas City Chiefs begin OTAs
