The Kansas City Royals ended a 4 game losing skid with a 6-1 win over the Houston Astros Sunday. Kendrys Morales hit a solo home run in the 4th inning. He added a home run to start a 5 run 7th inning.

Emporia Legion AAA rained out Sunday

The Emporia Senior American Legion baseball team had their final games in the McPherson Hooper Classic tournament rained out Sunday. The Post 5 Seniors were 2-1 in pool play with wins over Ark City and Wabaunsee and a loss to Hays. They were scheduled to play Larned Sunday. They are now 9-8 for the season and will play at Manhattan on Wednesday.
 

Emporia Energy teams wrap up tournament play

The Emporia Energy Gilpin 12 year old team won the Emporia Summer Slam tournament. Team Gilpin defeated FlintHills Wind out of Council Grove 3-2 in the championship game. Team Gilpin defeated other Emporia Energy 12 year old team 6-3 in the semi-finals.

Emporia State signees lead teams to wins in KBCA All Star games

The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association High School All Star games were played Saturday night. Two Emporia State signees had hands in wins.
In the girls game Jessica Wayne of Kansas City Piper high school scored 22 points including 12 in the final 10 minutes of regulation as she helped lead the White team ot a 109-103 overtime win over the Blue team.
In the Boys game Osage Citys Duncan Fort scored a game high 23 points to lead the Blue team to a 106-97 win over the White team.

Astros torch Royals 13-5

For the second night in a row the Houston Astros routed the Kansas City Royals 13-5 last night. The Astros scored 7 runs in the 2nd inning and never looked back. Alex Gordon in his first game back hit a solo home run in the 6th inning. Drew Butera pitched in the 9th gave up 1 hit and had a strikeout. He also doubled in the bottom of the the 9th.
