Cleveland clinches AL Central with win over Royals

(Royals/ESPN/AP) For the second year in a row, the Cleveland Indians are AL Central champions. The Indians clinched their title on Saturday night when second-place Minnesota lost to Toronto. Kansas State upset by Vanderbilt

(KSU/AP) Vanderbilt scored with 8:23 to play and up-set 18th ranked Kansas State 14-7 Saturday. Jesse Ertz scored Kansas States lone touchdown in the 2nd quarter. Ertz came up a yard short on fourth down with 52 seconds left at the Vanderbilt 12 yard line. The Wildcats have a bye week next week before playing host to Baylor

Kansas loses at Ohio

(KU) A career rushing day for sophomore running back Khalil Herbert wasn't enough for Kansas football as the Jayhawks dropped a 42-30 contest to Ohio Saturday. Ohio scored five touchdowns on 450 total yards offensively. Peyton Bender also threw 2 touchdown passes for the Jayhawks. The Jayhawks return home to face West Virginia on Saturday, September 23, with kickoff slated for 11 a.m.
 

Emporia High Cross Country teams 5th at Baldwin

The Emporia High girls and boys cross country teams finished in 5th place at the Baldwin Invitation Saturday. Abby Stewart led the Emporia High girls with a 2nd place finish. Kaitlyn Karjala finished in 15th place. Nick Core was the lead runner for the Emporia High boys finishing in 18th place. Treyson True finished in 19th place.

Emporia State volleyball wraps up play at MIAA/GAC Challenge

The Emporia State volleyball team won and match and lost a match on the final day of the M-I-A-A/G-A-C challenge Saturday. The Lady Hornets defeated East Central Oklahoma in 4 sets and lost to Oklahoma Baptist in 5 sets. The Emporia State Volleyball team is now 7-5 for the season. They will play at Fort Hays State on Friday.

Emporia State cross country teams race at MSSU Stampede

The Emporia State mens cross country team finished in 13th place and the women in 27th place at the Missouri Southern Stampede Saturday. The men were led by Brian Newkirk who finished in 23rd place. Kelsey Graber finished in 167th place to lead the Empoia State women. The Emporia State cross country teams will host a meet this coming Friday.

The 14th ranked Emporia State Hornets will be on the road Saturday. They play at Missouri Southern.
