The Emporia High boys golf team earned a trip to State with a 3rd place finish at Mondays regional tournament played at the Emporia Golf course.
Emporia State senior third baseman Dean Long has been named the ABCA/Rawlings Central Region player of the year. He finished the season with a .364 batting average with 23 home runs, 81 RBI, 19 doubles, 64 runs and 12 stolen bases. He was also named the MIAA player of the year. He is joined on the first team by teammate Justin Harris. Harris finished the season with .415 batting average, four home runs, 39 RBI, 25 doubles, five triples, 69 runs and 27 stolen bases. Emporia High School is announcing the hiring of two new coaches for the 2015-16 school year. EHS Athletic Director Curtis Simons says Mike Robinson is the new Cross Country coach and Carly Spicer is the new volleyball coach.
New University of Kansas, and former Emporia State, women's basketball coach Brandon Schneider is settling into his new position and preparing for the upcoming season.
Former Emporia State receiver Austin Willis, after 3 days of rookie mini camp, has been signed by the Oakland Raiders. Going into the mini camp Willis was asking for chance to prove himself.
