The Emporia State football team scored early and often on the way to a 49-21 win over Missouri Southern Saturday afternoon.
The Kansas City Chiefs face the Houston Texans Sunday in a week two showdown. Kick-off is set for noon. The Chiefs elevated offensive lineman Jordan Devey from the practice squad for todays game in Houston. Kansas City needs depth along the offensive line after declaring starting guards, Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff and Parker Ehinger, out for Sundays game.
The Chiefs are also expected to be without running back Jamaal Charles, who is doubtful as he tries to work his way back from surgery last season to repair the torn ACL in his right knee. The game will be broadcast on Country 101.7FM beginning at 11am.
Kansas State scored 21 points off of 4 turnovers in the first half on the way to a 63-7 win over Florida Atlantic Saturday. Winston Dimel ran for four first-half touchdowns, Jesse Ertz threw for another score and Dominique Heath returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown as Kansas State put up its most points since 2009. The Wildcats improve to 1-1 for the season. They will host Missouri State next Saturday.
(kuathletics) Three first half fumbles – two on its first three drives of the game – and six turnovers overall, put Kansas in an early hole it couldn't escape as the Jayhawks dropped their road opener, 43-7, to Memphis Saturday afternoon. The Tigers tallied 394 yards of offense – 205 rushing and 189 passing – with an average drive start at their own 48-yard line. Kansas' freshman running back Khalil Herbert rushed for 74 yards and had 35 receiving yards, to go along with the Jayhawks' only touchdown of the day. The Jayhawks fall to 1-2 for the season. They will be off next weekend before opening Big-12 play against Texas Tech on September 29th.
Emporia Highs gymnastics team finished in 5th place out of 7 teams at the Lawrence Free State Invitational. Individually for Emporia High Haylee Weiss placed 4th on the vault and 5th on the balance beam. Alyssa Cox placed 12th on the floor exercise and balance beam, 20th on the uneven bars and 15th in all around competition.
