Cleveland routs Royals 10-1

No rally Sunday for the Kansas City Royals as the Cleveland Indians routed the Royals 10-1. Jorge Bonifacio belted his seventh home run for the Royals' lone run and 1 of 4 hits off of Josh Tomlin. The Royals host the Detroit Tigers tonight. Jason Hammel makes the start for the Royals with first pitch set for 6:15. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.

Sato and Dillon win auto races Sunday

Japan's Takuma Sato won the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500. Driving for Andretti Autosport, Sato, 40, held off three-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves of Brazil, with Ed Jones coming in third.
  
Austin Dillon won the first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race of his career and put the vaunted No. 3 Chevrolet back in Victory Lane for the first time since 2000. He won the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Clint Bowyer finished 14th.
 

Four Emporia High baseball players named All Centennial League

Four members of the Emporia High baseball team have been named to the All Centennial League team. Kostin Mercer, Cole Moore, Sawyer Slayden and Hayden Baumwart received honorable mentions.
 
The Emporia American Legion Senior and Junior baseball teams will be holding tryouts Monday at 4pm at Sodens Grove.
Senior Legion open to those 19 and younger. Junior Legion is open to those 17 and younger.

Record setting State Track meet for Olpes Kyler True, Emporia High earns 12 medals

It was a record setting State High School track and field meet for Olpes Kyler True. The senior picked up 4 gold medals, setting two new state meet records. Emporia High athletes earned 12 medals.

Emporia State 4 x 400 relay earns All-American honors, again

The Emporia State mens 4 by 400 relay team earned All-American honors for the 2nd year in a row. The foursome of Taysean Goodwin Wyatt Sander, Luke Stenzel and Parker Evans finished in 7th place at the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field championship. It was the only top 8 finish for Emporia State at Nationals. Also on Saturday Alec Garcia finished in 12th place in the shotput.

Emporia High athletes earn 6 medals on day 1 of State track meet

On the first day of the State High School Track and Field meet Emporia High athletes picked up 6 medals and 3 events qualified for Saturday finals. Mikayla Simons finished in 2nd place in the discus. Daniel Huber placed 2nd pole vaulting. Abby Stewart finished 3rd in the 3200 meter run. Kelsey Gordon placed 3rd triple jumping. Jennica Smith had the 5th best javelin throw and Jonathan Olsson placed 8th in the shotput.
Alexis Davies and Tommy Secord advanced to the finals in the 400 meter dash. The boys 4 by 400 relay team also qualified for the finals.

Royals rally for win over Cleveland 6-4

(kcroyals) Rookie Jorge Bonifacio lined a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning as the Kansas City Royals roared back for a 6-4 win on Friday night over the Cleveland Indians.
