The Emporia State basketball teams closed out the regular season with wins over Pittsburg State Wednesday.
(sportsnetwork) Darius Carter finished with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds as No. 11 Wichita State cruised past Indiana State, 63-53 Wednesday night. Fred VanVleet scored 15 points, and Tekele Cotton added 12 points for the Shockers who won their 26th game of the season. They will host Northern Iowa Saturday with the Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship on the line.
Trips to State will be on the line Thursday for the Emporia High bowling teams. Emporia High will be hosting a regional tournament. 12 teams will be trying to earn a top 3 finish to earn a trip to State. The top 6 bowlers not on a qualifying team will also advance to state.
Emporia States softball team has headed South. The 17th ranked Lady Hornets will be playing a 3 game series with St. Edwards in Austin, Texas beginning Thursday.
Emporia States baseball team out scored Newman 16-11 Wednesday. Every starter had at least 1 hit. The Hornets scored 9 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 10-0 and held on for the win. The Hornets are now 6-3 for the season. They are scheduled to host Central Missouri in a 4 game series beginning Friday.
The Kansas City Royals have announced that First Baseman Mike Sweeney has been voted into the Royals Hall of Fame. He will become the elite group’s 26th inductee this season with a ceremony before a game at Kauffman Stadium, which will be announced at a later date.
The Emporia State basketball teams play their final regular season games Wednesday night when the host Pittsburg State. A win by the Lady Hornets would give them the number 2 seed in the MIAA tournament. The Men need a win to keep their MIAA tournament hopes alive.
It was not a good night at Topeka Seaman for the Emporia High basketball teams Tuesday night. Seaman out scored the Emporia High girls 60-48. Seaman won the boys game 67-46.
