The Northern Heights Wildcats dominated the time of possession Thursday night at Welch Stadium to finish the year with a 34-17 win over the Chase County Bulldogs. Northern Heights had four drives that went at least 12 plays, but none more impressive than the opening drive of the second half. Leading 14-0, the Wildcats marched 62 yards down the field in 15 plays while chewing 8:30 off the clock; scoring on a 10-yard pass from Brandon Campbell to Michael DeWeese. Senior running back Donovan Read paced the ground attack with 20 carries, 118 yards and two touchdowns; and says the third quarter drive was definitely part of the game plan.
Read says playing in his final game of his Wildcats' career was very emotional.
Northern Heights gained 263, of their 274 total yards, on the ground. Campbell and Trent Burd teamed with Read to add 63 and 53 yards, respectively. Chase County struggled to sustain drives, but did find pay dirt on a Brendan Watts to Alec Keller 61-yard touchdown pass and a Watts 1-yard run. Keller finished with six catches for 103 yards.
Northern Heights finishes their season 4-5, while Chase County finishes at 2-7.
