Jory Collins KBCA Coach of Year

Emporia State womens basketball Coach Jory Collins has been named the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Womens College Coach of the year. Coach Collins led the Lady Hornets to a record of 29-5 that included the MIAA tournament championship, the Central Regional tournament championship and a final 4 appearance.

Emporia High divers wrap up day one at State

Emporia High diver Whitney Sparks is in 3rd place and Blair Meyer is in 4th place after the first round of dives at the State meet. The diving will wrap up Friday evening. The prelims for the state swim meet will be held Friday. Emporia High has 9 swimmers competing in 10 events.

Season ends for Emporia High baseball team

The Emporia High baseball team was defeated by Newton 10-4 in the regional semi-finals. Newton scored 2 runs in the 1st and added 5 runs in the 3rd inning to build a 8-0 lead. The Spartans scored a single run in the 4th inning. Newton added 2 more runs in the 5th inning. Emporia High rallied with 3 runs in the 7th but it was not enough. The Spartans finish their season with a 8-13 record.

Season ends for Emporia High softball team

The Emporia High softball team was defeated by Great Bend 13-3 in the semi-finals of the regional tournament. Great Bend took advantage of 13 walks scoring 7 runs off the walks. The Lady Spartans finished the season with a 3-18 record.

Day one ESU at NCAA Outdoor Track Championships

On day one of the NCAA Division II outdoor Track and field championships Emporia States Donald Wilcox earned All-American honors in the long jump. He finished in 7th place with a best jump of 24 feet 5.5 inches. After the prelims he was in a 3 way tie for 9th place and was able to move onto the finals. Maggie Wilson finished in 11th place in the pole vault, setting a school record of 12 feet 5.5 inches. Payson Maydew is in 6th place after 5 events in the decathlon.
