Northern Heights pulls out senior night sweep over Hartford Friday Featured

Northern Heights swept Hartford on senior night Friday in area high school basketball action.

In the girl’s game, a strong third quarter by Northern Heights would see the Lady Wildcats pick up a 53-23 win over the Hartford Lady Jaguars.

Northern Heights would take an early lead and despite falling behind midway through the first quarter would retake the momentum leading 10-6 at the end of one. Northern Heights would build their lead to 11 in the second before a late 6-0 run saw Hartford pull within 5 trailing 20-15 at the half.

Northern Heights would outscore Hartford 23-4 in the third quarter shooting 10 of 13 from the field. Northern Heights would hold Hartford to just three points in the fourth to close out the win.

Northern Heights was led in scoring by senior Kaley Boyce with 19 points. Fellow senior Caleigh Smart added 16.

Head Coach Lanny Massey says they were a different team in the second half.

Hartford was led in scoring by junior Regan Darbyshire with six points.

Northern Heights now improves to 13-4 on the season as Hartford falls to 4-10.

In the boy’s game, the Wildcats picked up their first win of the season defeating Hartford 38-25.

Both teams would struggle to find the basket early on ending the first quarter even at six. In the second quarter, Northern Heights used a late 11-0 run to take a lead they would never relinquish as they would hold off a late comeback effort by the Jaguars in the fourth quarter to end their season-long losing skid.

Northern Heights was led in scoring by sophomore Koelden Ryberg with 12 points on the night.

Head Coach Jacob Lang says he was extremely proud of his team's effort.

Hartford was led in scoring by junior Devon Smith with 8 points.

Northern Heights now improves to 1-14 on the season as Hartford falls to 3-14.
