Royals lose to Indians

The Cleveland Indians defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-1 Friday night.

It turned out to be Carlos Santana night. He hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs. Alcides Escobar finished with four hits and drove in the lone run for the Royals, whose lead in the AL Central was reduced to a half-game as Detroit won in Chicago. The Royals and Indians play again Saturday night in Kansas City with James Shields on the mound for the Royals.

Before Fridays game, the Royals announced that pitcher Bruce Chen has been designated for assignment and Louis Coleman was recalled from Triple-A Omaha.

Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer will begin his comeback in game situations Saturday. Hosmer hasn't played since July 31 because of a stress fracture in his right hand, but that's to end when he reports to Triple-A Omaha for a game against Colorado Springs.
