Wichita Northwest shutout the Emporia High boys soccer team 3-0 in the season opener for both teams Friday evening.
Northwest scored their first goal 5 minutes 44 seconds into the match and added their second goal with 69 seconds to play in the first half. They would add a third goal on a penalty kick with just under 18 minutes to play in the match. Coach Victor Ibarra called it an encouraging first time out.
The Spartans return to action Monday when they play Trinity Academy in the Wichita South Titan Classic.
