Twins score late for win over Royals

The Minnesota Twins scored 6 runs in the top of the 10th inning and out scored the Kansas City Royals 11-5 Thursday night.


Alex Gordon, who hit a solo homerun in the 7th inning to tie the game at 5, was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI and two runs scored. Starter Jeremy Guthrie allowed five runs on nine hits over six innings. Bruce Chen gave up six runs on five hits in the 10th to take the loss.

The Royals begin a 3 game series with the Cleveland Indians Friday night. Jason Vargas gets the start for the Royals.

The Royals have a 1.5 game lead over the Detroit Tigers who edged the New York Yankees 3-2 yesterday.

The Royals aquired infielder  Jayson Nix off wavers from Pittsburgh. Manager Ned Yost says he is being brought on board strictly to improve roster depth and is expected to join the Royals by Saturday.

The Royals also activated left-handed reliever Scott Downs off the disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Liam Hendriks to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
