Emporia Highs baseball team split their season opening doubleheader with Topeka Hayden Tuesday night. Hayden won the first game 10-0. Emporia High won the second game 2-1.
In the first game Hayden broke open a close game scoring 9 runs in the 6th inning to end the game. Emporia High won the second game 2-1. Jeff Bonitatibus scored the games first run in the first inning. The Spartans added a single run in the 3rd inning and thats all they needed. Jeff Bonitatibus was the winning pitcher giving up 1 run on 4 hits. Braxton Marstall earned the save. Coach Shawn Wilson said he was pleased with pitching performances.
Emporia High is off until April 11th when they host Shawnee Heights. They will also dedicate the new Jones Field at Sodens Grove between the two games that night.
