The Emporia High softball team was swept by Topeka Hayden in their season opener Tuesday. Hayden won the first game 12-4 and won the second game 8-2.
In the first game Hayden scored 8 runs in the 7th inning to close out the contest. They were leading 4-0 going to the 7th. Emporia High tried to rally scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. In the second game Hayden scored in the top of the 1st inning, Emporia High tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Hayden would take the lead for good with 3 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Dispite losing both games Coach Troy Chapman was encouraged.
The Lady Spartans are off until April 11th when they play at Shawnee Heights.
