The United Way of the Flint Hills has culminated the public portion of its 2017-2018 fundraising drive.
At the end of the annual Campaign Celebration, held Thursday at the Memorial Union Colonial Ballroom, drive co-chairs Ed and Coralie Owens unveiled this year's total to date: $567,491. United Way Director Jami Reever:
That list of grants included:
*Food For Students, receiving $13,000 after requesting $11,000
*Cerebral Palsy Foundation: receiving their request for $15,000
*Boy Scouts: receiving $16,000
*Salvation Army: receiving $44,000
*Emporia Child Care: receiving their request for $41,000
Ed Owens called it a great drive.
Coralie Owens called the last several months informative, even though she is a member of the United Way board.
The event saw several awards handed out. The Wright CPA Group was honored as the Business Partner of the Year. Emporia Child Care received the Community Partner of the Year award. Peggy Supiran was honored as the Workplace Campaign Coordinator of the Year. And Sauder Custom Fabrication received the Spirit Award.
In addition, Emporia State University, Tyson Fresh Meats and Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Plant were honored as members of the Community Builders Hall of Fame.
