It was a rough night for the Emporia High basketball teams Friday night as Hesston routed both the Lady Spartans and Spartans in the Garden Plain Tournament.
In the girls game Hesston used a 20-0 run in the first half to gain control and cruised to a 45-11 win. The Emporia High girls took an early 3-1 lead on an Amber Schaefer 3 point basket but would never have the lead again. They trailed 21-4 at halftime. As a team the Lady Spartans shot 10 percent from the floor making 3 of 30 fieldgoal attempts. Kayna Hastings, Whitney Wilhite and Amber Schaefer led Emporia High with 3 points.
In the boys game Hesston had a 18-2 lead after the first quarter and rolled to a 55-28 win. The Emporia High boys shot 18 percent from the floor, hitting 7 of 39 fieldgoal attempts. John Williams was the leading scorer for the Spartans finishing with 9 points.
Both the Emporia High girls and boys play Garden Plain Saturday on the final day of the Garden Plain tournament. The girls game tips-off at 4:30 the boys will tip-off at 7:30.
