The Emporia State women survived a late scare at Northwest Missouri State Saturday night, winning their first MIAA game 68-64. Northwest Missouri State rolled to a 89-68 win over the Emporia State men.
The Lady Hornets led 36-25 at halftime and by as many as 18 points in the second half before Northwest rallied to cut the lead to 2.
Kelly Moten led Emporia State in scoring with 13 points. Desiree Wylie and Laura Patrick both added 10 points. With the win the Lady Hornets improved to 8-0 for the season and 1-0 in MIAA play.
In the mens game Northwest Missouri State scored the first 6 points and never trailed in defeating the Hornets 89-68.
Jevon Taylor scored a game high 20 points to lead the Hornets. Tyler Jordan added 11 points and Kaleb Wright scored 10 points. Northwest Missouri State had 5 players score in doublefigures led by Conner Crookers 19 points. The Hornets are now 6-4 for the season and 0-1 in MIAA play.
