Kansas City Royals chasing Carlos Beltran

The Kansas City Royals attempt to reacquire free-agent outfielder Carlos Beltran took a step forward Tuesday with face-to-face talks in Kansas City.

Beltran acknowledged the meeting after he left late in the afternoon after a lengthy session with team president Dan Glass, general manager Dayton Moore and other team officials. The Royals reportedly have offered to Beltran as much as $48 million over three years. One top club official said last weekend the Royals “would love” to sign Beltran, whom they drafted in 1995 and developed into a rising star before trading him in 2004 to Houston in a money-cutting measure.
