Perry Ellis hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final 35 seconds as the Kansas Jayhawks escaped with a 67-63 win over University of Texas-El Paso in the consolation game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas. Ellis finished with 19 points on the night.
UTEP trimmed the Jayhawks lead to 66-63 with 6.8 seconds to play, but Ellis hit one of two free throws, with 5.2 seconds to play, to seal the win. Wayne Selden Jr., with 14, and Nadir Tharpe, with 11, were also in double figures for KU.
The Jayhawks improve to 7-1 on the season.
