The Kansas City Royals completed a sweep of the Oakland A's with a 5-3 win Sunday.
Clint Bowyer finished 3rd at Sonoma Sunday for his best finish of 2015. Kyle Busch won the race and was followed by his brother Kurt Busch. Bowyer moves up to 16th in the point standings. It was his first top 5 finish but 3rd top 10 finish in his last 4 races.
The Emporia AAA American Legion baseball team wrapped up play at the McPherson Showcase tournament with a 12-4 win over the Kansas Cannons Sunday to finish 2-2 in the tournament. The Junior Legion won the Andover tournament.
The Emporia Energy 14 year old team finished with a 3-2-1 record at the Kansas City Metro B Championships over the weekend. They opened with a 9-0 loss to the Kansas Fusion. Then the 14s defeated the 5 Tool Rumble 13-2. Tied the Bandits 5-5 to finish 1-1-1 in pool play. In bracket play they opened with a 6-5 win over the St. Joe Hazard. Defeated the Rebellion 6-0 and were defeated by the Wichita Wave 9-0 in the semi-finals. They are now 14-11-4 on the season.
Five first place finishes for Emporia teams in the Emporia MAYB tournament held over the weekend. Emporia teams won all 4 boys divisions and won the girls 9-12 grade division.
Emporia High track and field athlete Kylia Floyd has earned a trip to the AAU Junior Olympics. She will be competing in both the triple jump and long jump. Emporia State javelin thrower Liz Costello 17th at USATF Junior Nationals.
