The Chicago White Sox routed the Kansas City Royals 12-1 Monday night. Whit Merrifield scored on a Mike Moustakas double in the 3rd inning to tie the game at 1. The White Sox scored 8 runs in the 6th inning to put the game out of reach. The Royals have now lost 5 in a row scoring a combined 6 runs in those loses. The Royals and White Sox play again tonight. Danny Duffy will be on the mound for the Royals and Dylan Covey gets the start for the White Sox with first pitch at 7:10p
The Emporia High baseball and softball teams are scheduled to play Manhattan in doubleheaders Tuesday. The boys tennis team will hosting a tournament and the girls swim and dive team goes to Topeka.
The Emporia High girls soccer team defeated Topeka West 2-1 in overtime Monday. Angie Morales scored the first goal and Tamia Victor scored the match winner. The Lady Spartans are now 4-5-1. They host Highland Park Tuesday. The Varsity only match will be play at Trysa with kick-off at 5pm.
The Emporia High boys golf team finished in 18th place out of 21 teams at the Topeka West Invitational Monday. Gentry Scheve had the low score for Emporia High, shooting a 82 to finish in 27th place. Collin Hopkins shot a 84. Caleb Schmid a 96 and Connor Hoyt a 104. The next varsity tournament will be the Centennial League tournament next Monday.
