The Olpe Eagles scored 20 unanswered points in the third quarter to come from behind to beat the Chase County Bulldogs 26-14 on the Area High School Game of the Week Friday night. Trailing 7-6 at halftime, Olpe cashed in touchdown runs of 72 and 45 yards by Bo Krueger and a 71-yard punt return touchdown by Brady Scheidegger to take control of the game. Krueger says Olpe coach Chris Schmidt challenged them to get the running game going in the second half.
The Eagles offense racked up 179 second half rushing yards, over half of their 287 total yards. Krueger hit Scheidegger for a 14-yard touchdown in the first quarter to round out the scoring.
The Olpe defense was also up to the challenge, holding the Chase County offense to only 85 rushing yards. Krueger said stopping the run was definitely their focus.
Brendan Watts added 95 passing yards for the Bulldogs, hitting Alec Keller for a 5-yard touchdown and Brett Engle for a 67-yard score.
Olpe improves to 7-1, while Chase County falls to 2-6.
