SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

May 15, 2013

Our Kansas Legislature is sitting in Topeka basically twiddling their thumbs. The Governor, the Senate and the House of Representatives are in disagreement over how to fund the budget.

Twiddling their thumbs is code for waiting for someone to blink.

Everyday they wait the Kansans pay because the legislators  are getting paid to play this game of “chicken.”

We can help stop this by weighing in with our elected officials.

The most reasonable answer is to extend the .6% sales tax which will allow the budget to be funded.

Two of our local officials favor this solution as the best alternative.

Representative Peggy Mast doesn’t appear to have  reached that conclusion.

If I heard her correctly two weeks ago on KVOE she said she had not heard from many who opposed extending the tax.        My conclusion is we need to contact Rep. Mast and encourage her to support the extension,

She should be vocal in doing so to encourage her party members to follow her lead. This is important because she is one of the highest ranking leaders on the Republican side.

Extending  the sales tax is of tremendous importance to Emporia State University. At a time when ESU is making great strides under President Shonrock the last thing it needs is a nasty cut in its budget.

Please send Rep. Mast an e-mail at peggy.mast@house.ks.gov

Peggy can be an agent for change that moves state government forward and helps ESU continue on the road to recovery, but she needs some encouragement from us.

        That e-mail again is: peggy.mast@house.ks.gov

No one wants higher taxes, but this sales tax extension is a very small price to pay for the aggressive income tax plan Kansas is attempting.

Let’s give Peggy some needed encouragement.

I’m Steve Sauder and there’s something to think about.
