Hi Everyone!   Well it’s not very often that I send out a blanket email like this but I have so many people wanting to know how our moose season and my Brown Bear hunt went that I think this is the best way to do it. The answer is......... AWESOME!!!!
It was a slow year for me as I only had 3 moose clients, but all three took archery bulls (51", 53" & 60" pics attached). As I said last year it looked like my area is recovering and after this season I sure of it! Although we weren't able to harvest any of the really big bulls we did see and have encounters with three bulls over 65". I think were looking at some really good hunting in years to come!

As soon as my last client was headed home I jumped in the Super Cub and headed for Unimak Island  (12 hours & 2 days) to bow hunt Brown bears. I had been trying to draw this tag for 20 years, and this year I finally got it! It was well worth the wait. I was joined on the hunt with good friend Garry Thoms. (Garry also guides for me in my moose camps) Weather is a major factor on this hunt, we spent an extra day in Cold bay waiting for weather to fly out, and then two more days glassing from the ridge and wait for the wind to lay down enough to shoot an arrow. We actually spotted this bear the 1st day he was on a kill he had buried. On day 3 we went on the stalk. It all ended with me shooting him at 10 FEET front on as he came to investigate my intrusion! What a Adrenalin rush! The bear turned and went 150 yards and went down. He squared 10' 2" has 27" plus skull. The kill the bear was feeding on was a 8 1/2' sow and probably her cubs (we didn't dig that deep).

I hope this email finds everyone having as good a fall as I have had!

Cheers! Stan
