Dozens came out to the Granada Theatre Thursday evening for a free screening of a made-for-TV documentary highlighting Emporia’s relationship with the Dirty Kanza and Glass Blown Open disc golf tournament.
“Excellence in Emporia” features a look at how the two events have evolved to become two of the area’s premiere sporting events. It features commentary from organizers, participants and spectators on how it continues to draw people from all over the world. Emporian Vietta Eubanks says her family has embraced the events.
From a tourism perspective, both events are economic booms for the city. Emporia Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Susan Rathke says both have done a great job putting Emporia on the map.
Registration for the 2018 Dirty Kanza is open through Saturday at 11:59 p.m. More information is available at dirtykanza.com. Information on the GBO is available at glassblownopen.com.
