"Excellence in Emporia" will be featured at the Granada Theatre on Thursday night.
That's the title of a special made-for-TV feature highlighting the unique relationship between the area and two of its biggest events -- the Dirty Kanza and Glass Blown Open. The community is encouraged to attend the free event Thursday.
On KVOE's Newsmaker segment Wednesday, DK founder Jim Cummins called the area "the star of the show."
Doug Bjerkass of Dynamic Discs agreed. He says the relationship between the events and the area is truly special.
Cummins says the original plan was to have the documentary air on CBS Sports. When that fell through, several regional cable companies agreed to air it -- but there was nothing coming locally, so arrangements were made to screen the show at the Granada.
Activities begin at 6 pm. There will be a meet-and-greet with staffers from Dirty Kanza and Dynamic Discs. The feature begins at 7 pm and runs about 45 minutes, leading into Main Street's Midnight Madness starting at 8 pm.
