Twinkies Festival 2017 saw a new venue and several new activities for people to take part in Saturday.
The Lyon County Fairgrounds played host to the fifth annual event, which included a 5K, a costume contest, carnival games and a Lego Land and highlighted by the ever-popular Twinkie eating contest. This year's winner Bobby Keosybounheuang, a Hostess employee, shoved 10 of the creme filled treats in his face to win the adult competition. He says he has some bragging rights now among his co-workers.
This was Bobby's second year competing in the eating contest and he says his strategy was basically to just "shove 'em in." The move to the fairgrounds was seen as a way to help Twinkies Fest grow. Emporia Chamber President Jeanine McKenna says they hope to see it continue to grow.
The Boxcar Derby also had a new home, on the ESU campus.
