Topeka man killed in Osage City workplace accident

A Topeka man was killed early Wednesday morning after a work related accident at the Orbis Plastic plant in Osage City.
According to an investigation by the Osage City Police the apparent cause of the accident was that a forklift pinned the man against other equipment, causing fatal injuries. The man has been identified as 53-year-old Ruben Guadlaupe Chavira who had been employed by Orbis since 2014 as a “Press Operator and Backup Grinder.” A coworker reportedly discovered the accident.
The Coroner office responded to the scene for investigation and to make the official pronouncement of death. Orbis, OSHA, and the Coroner’s office will conduct further investigations. No further information is being released at this time.
