Two waves of storms bring hail, winds to KVOE listening area

Saturday was an active day for severe weather in the KVOE listening area.

The first round of storms moved through the area between 11 a.m. and noon, producing nickel to quarter sized hail in Americus and BETO Junction and golf-ball sized hail near the area of Melvern. A second round of more intense storms developed around 3 p.m. affecting southern portions of the listening area where 70 mile per hour wind gusts were reported on the Kansas Turnpike south of Emporia and up to golf ball sized hail was reported around Olpe.

There have been no reports of damage with these storms. Forecasters say the rest of the Memorial Day weekend should remain dry.
