Made in Kansas Day to feature Hostess work locally

On Tuesday, the Kansas Department of Commerce highlights the work of Hostess in Emporia and around the country.
The Department of Commerce will have a Made in Kansas Day from 11 am to 1 pm at the Kansas Statehouse. Presentations will highlight Emporia's integral role in the company since new management bought the company and the Emporia facility in April 2013. Emporia was announced as the flagship production facility that year. Since then, Hostess has invested about $70 million here, including the addition of two cake production lines, automation, warehousing and the expansion of shipping docks. Another investment, expansion of the receiving area, begins this upcoming fall.
Initially, employment was projected to stay under 400. Now it's at 575.
Made in Kansas Days were created to promote pride in the state's manufacturing companies.
