Walnut School is 65 years old and going strong.

In March, students at Logan Avenue Elementary watched as their principal kissed a pig in celebration of raising money for the Pennies for Patients drive.

Friday, students at Walnut Elementary were treated to the same sight.

Two area schools are participating in Wednesday's International Walk to School Day.

Emporia's Walnut School, along with Burlington Elementary, will see kids hoofing it to class. Walnut PTO President Leslie Seeley is telling parents to meet at the Church of Christ parking lot at 12th and Neosho by 7:35 am.
