USD 253 Emporia is now into its second interview as it continues its search for a new superintendent.

The second finalist announced Monday is USD 512 Shawnee Mission Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Darren Dennis. He is into his fifth year in that role and previously served as an assistant superintendent, director of learning services, director of personnel and lead associate principal in USD 457 Garden City.

Dr. Dennis says his year's of experience in a variety of roles gives him a broader view of what it takes to make a district run successfully.

Dr. Dennis went on to say he embraces a collaborative approach when it comes to the needs and issues facing the district and believes input from all staff, students and patrons is vital. He added that the educational redesign is an exciting prospect for him.

He says if "we want to see different results, we have to do things differently."

Dr. Dennis is the second finalist to be interviewed Monday following USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright Monday morning.

USD 253 board members have a third interview Tuesday morning. Once this process is done, the board will have two executive sessions at noon Tuesday before its regular meeting at 5:30 pm Wednesday. The district has not said when it plans to announce its choice for superintendent.
