Repairs are coming soon for different water lines that failed in last week's extreme cold.

Public Works Director Dean Grant says repairs should start this week at 18th Avenue, both at Graphic Arts and near Hammond Park, 12th and Prairie and 22nd and Meadowlark. Grant estimates 10 water line or water main leaks developed starting Feb. 11. He tells KVOE News he wasn't surprised because he really didn't have any expectation on how the underground system would turn out. Other issues developed that went beyond what Grant expected.

There were two notable breaks from Feb. 11-16. An 8-inch line failed in the 10 block of West Ninth and flooded several downtown businesses and nonprofits. Bunge's west parking lot was largely flooded after a break near Fifth and East on Feb. 16 -- one of three breaks along East during the bitter cold.

Overnight lows officially got down as low as -14 last Monday night, although the Water Treatment Plant hit -17 that night.
