Donald Trump is now the first president to be impeached twice.

The House of Representatives voted 232-197 to impeach President Trump on one count of incitement of insurrection after last week's riot at the US Capitol that resulted in five deaths. Ten Republicans -- none of them from Kansas -- sided with Democrats on impeachment.

The Senate will now decide Trump's fate. Current Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says the chamber will not return early to start impeachment proceedings, so the earliest any trial could start is Jan. 19 -- the day before Democrat Joe Biden's inauguration. A two-thirds majority is needed for a conviction.

Trump was impeached in December 2019 and was acquitted. Andrew Johnson was the first president impeached back in 1868, with Bill Clinton impeached in 1998. Both avoided conviction.
