For months, the department has touted www.GetKansasBenefits.gov as an information source on benefit matters. The fraudulent site has done a good job in copying the legitimate site's layout, but it also has a bad URL that starts with allovercoupon.com/blog/. The Labor Department is not showing the full URL for security concerns.

The Labor Department says you should look closely at the URL if you need information about benefits. If you see a partial URL, close the tab and erase it from your browser's history.

The report comes just a day after the Labor Department announced the latest phishing attempt through cell phones. People who click on links need to go to their GetKansasBenefits portal from a secure device, check their information and change their passwords as a precaution.

The Department of Labor has been noting spikes in identity theft activity for months, and not just here. Nationally, the department says unemployment-related identity theft costs taxpayers more than $26 billion. The department is working with law enforcement at all levels to find those responsible.
