Several law enforcement agencies are stepping up their traffic enforcement efforts through the Thanksgiving weekend.

Lyon, Greenwood and Osage deputies are among those who have announced their participation in the Kansas Thanksgiving Safe Arrival program. Deputies will enforce all traffic laws but will be "aggressively targeting and removing" impaired drivers from the roads.

The Kansas Department of Transportation is providing grant funding for overtime enforcement efforts. It says the Thanksgiving week is busy for impairment-related wrecks, and the day before Thanksgiving sees more of those kinds of wrecks than any other day of the year.

The Thanksgiving Safe Arrival enforcement campaign begins Friday and continues through Nov. 29.
