Lyon County Commissioners lent their support to Ignite Emporia through a generous contribution Thursday morning.

During their regular action session Thursday, commissioners approved a contribution of $20,000 to Ignite Emporia. The commission originally made a five-year $100,000 pledge to the organization, however, Commission Chairman Rollie Martin says the commission is now taking a year-by-year approach.

He says the commission wants to adequately assess Ignite Emporia's results as they consider future contributions.

This was the second payment in the original agreement between the county and Ignite Emporia according to Martin.

Martin says while finances will be a factor in future decision making, Ignite's results in economic development within the local community will be the main driving force.

In other business, commissioners also approved paying its portion of line credit accrued by the Flint Hills Regional Council in the amount of $6,227.

Commissioners then offered their weekly reports before spending the remainder of the meeting in executive session. The Lyon County Commission will next convene for its weekly session Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
