The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a Lyon County inmate early Friday.

Harold Gillen, 72, had been in the Lyon County Jail since March 27 and was awaiting a pretrial hearing on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon when he died.

Lyon County Deputy Danny Broyles says Detention Center staffers were conducting routine bed checks, finding Gillen slouched over in the bottom bunk of his cell. Detention staff used CPR before Lyon County EMS came to the jail and continued the process, but Gillen was pronounced dead shortly before 2:30 am.

Additional details are pending at this time.
