Emporia/Lyon County EMS has taken one person to Newman Regional Health following a semi fire on the Kansas Turnpike Friday morning.

Crews were toned out to KTA mile marker 115.4, roughly 11 miles southwest of the Emporia toll gate, shortly after 8 am for a reported injury accident. Shortly after a second call for a vehicle fire in the same location came down.

The vehicle in question was a semi hauling farm equipment according to the Emporia Fire Department. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered the cab of the semi was fully engulfed in flames. One individual, believed to be the semi's driver, was taken to NRH with currently unknown injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The investigation is being handled by the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Emergency crews are responding to a reported vehicle fire on the Kansas Turnpike.

Emergency crews were called to KTA mile marker 115.4 roughly 11 miles southwest of the Emporia toll booth just after 8 am for an injury accident in the same area. Shortly after a second call came down for a reported vehicle fire.

According to dispatch, the vehicle in question is an 18 wheeler, however, the cause and severity of the fire is unknown at this time. Emporia fire crews and the Kansas Highway Patrol remain on scene at this time.
