The Center for Great Plains Studies is preparing to host the Friends of the Plains Dinner this Friday.

The evening will include a reception followed by a dinner, door prizes, and recent Oscar Award recipient Kevin Wilmot as the featured speaker. Director of the Center for Great Plains Studies Max McCoy describes the event as a way for the community to show its support.

The center's mission is to assist those researching the Great Plains. They do so by housing many Flint Hills related books in the William Allen White Library, as well as hosting a variety of other events aimed to inform the public about their cause including the recently-completed Tallgrass Science and Nature Writing Workshop.

The Friends of the Plains Dinner will be held at the Memorial Union at 6 pm Friday. The cost is $31 a seat. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Center at 341-5574 or visiting their Facebook page.
