There is no suspect and criminal charges are unlikely after a shooting incident in east Emporia over the weekend.

That's the determination from Emporia Police after investigating Saturday night's shooting incident at 1201 Triplett Drive.

Police and Emporia EMS were called to the Terra Park Apartments shortly before 9:45 pm Saturday. Police Capt. Dave DeVries says several individuals were inside an apartment, talking and drinking alcohol. At some point during the conversation, a firearm was brought into the conversation. It discharged for unlisted reasons and hit a 24-year-old Asian male of Emporia in the legs.

The victim was taken to Newman Regional Health with what are being called non-life-threatening wounds. His name is not being released.

DeVries says all indications point to an accidental shooting.
