Fire heavily damaged a vehicle and transitioned to a nearby house Friday morning.

Emporia Fire crews were dispatched to 218 Sylvan around 5:20 am. Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage tells KVOE News the fire apparently started in a car parked next to the house and then spread. The back end of the car was destroyed. Fire damage wasn't nearly as significant to the house, with some damage to the exterior and no fire spreading to the inside.

The cause and official origination point are under investigation.

5:30 am Friday: Vehicle fire reported near Second and Sylvan

Emporia Fire crews have dealt with a lot of vehicle fires over the past month, and another one was reported before sunrise Friday.

Fire crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Sylvan around 5:20 pm. Further details are pending.

Firefighters have had a couple of vehicle fire reports this month, although one earlier this week turned out to be smoke from a vaping pen. Firefighters dealt with four vehicle fires the last two weeks of December.
