Smiles abounded at the Flint Hills Technical College main campus and Humanitarian Center campus, both during and after commencement activities Wednesday.

President Dr. Dean Hollenbeck says it's an exciting time for graduates, especially because of the impact a tech college degree has in the work world. Graduation also caps off a busy calendar year for the college.

One of the highlights Wednesday night was a speech by Culinary Arts graduate Jorge Cazares, who now has a business up and running in Denver. Hollenbeck says the Cazares story is a shining example of what a college degree offers to its students.

Commencement activities took place in two parts, with nursing students having a pinning ceremony at the college's main campus before the official graduation ceremony at the college's Humanitarian Center campus. About 50 students graduated.
