Beacon for Hope brought residents together to shine a light in the midst of loss Thursday night.

In connection with National Suicide Prevention Week, a candlelight vigil illuminated Fremont Park's gazebo for victims of suicide. Beacon for Hope Executive Director Melissa Kurtenbach says victims do not just include those whose have lost their lives.

The evening began with the lighting of four candles, each with their own specific meaning. The first candle represented loss, the second courage, the third symbolized memories of loved ones and the fourth love.

Kurtenbach says the beauty of the vigil is the connections that form amongst complete strangers.

The vigil also served as a prelude to the organizations annual Hope Links Us Together walk and silent auction which will take place Saturday at Jones Park. Registration for the walk begins at 10 am the walk will begin at noon.
